Before Using This Medicine: INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking chemotherapy or corticosteroids. Also report the use of other medicines which might be potentially toxic to the kidney such as aminoglycosides (e.g., gentamicin, amikacin), amphotericin B, cyclosporine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (e.g., ibuprofen), tacrolimus, or vancomycin. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including kidney disease, cancer, dental problems, bone infection, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
How to Use This Medicine: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is usually administered as an infusion at a hospital or clinic. This medicine is sometimes used at home as an injection. If you are using this medicine at home, a health care professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. Ask any questions that you may have about this medicine or giving injections. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label.
Cautions: KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS (e.g. kidney function tests) while you are using this medicine. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE JAWBONE PROBLEMS in some patients, especially those who have cancer, are using certain medicines (such as chemotherapy or corticosteroids), or who have poor dental hygiene. These problems have been often associated with dental procedures. Talk to your doctor about an appropriate dental examination before you begin treatment with this medicine. Certain dental procedures should be avoided if possible while you are using this medicine. Ask your doctor any questions you may have about dental treatments while you are using this medicine. WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE, be sure to maintain good nutrition habits. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about taking a calcium and vitamin D supplement. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include a mild fever for 24-48 hours, nausea, or constipation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience pain, swelling or redness at injection site, continued bone pain, jaw pain or swelling, persistent fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, confusion, weakness, fatigue, or muscle cramps. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Additional Information: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
