Flavonoids are anti-inflammatory agents - do great benefit in cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Inflamation:
Inflammation is an orchestrated biological process, induced by microbial infection or tissue injury. A major trigger of inflammation is the recognition of microbes by specific receptors of the innate immune system, which play a crucial role in the induction of early signals initiating and establishing the inflammatory setting. A main function of inflammation is to resolve infection and to repair the damage in order to achieve homeostasis equilibrium. Thus, the ideal inflammatory response is rapid and destructive,
yet specific and self-limiting. The importance of this balance is demonstrated by findings in certain chronic infectious or inflammatory disorders, that the inflammatory response causes more damage to the host than the microbe.
Inflammation and the immune system are intimately tied. Indeed, an over activation of innate immune response can cause chronic infection or chronic inflammation due to an inefficient regulation or resolution of the inflammatory response.
Bioflavonoids, found in plants and food are very important anti-aging substances.
Apigenin and Luteolin:
These flavonoids found in such foods as parsley, artichoke, basil, and celery, spinach. Both compounds have shown the ability to protect cells against cancer and also to inhibit DNA oxidative damage. In a study on antioxidant potency, apigenin proved more effective than vitamin C in reducing oxidative damage to DNA. When measured against 27 citrus flavonoids, luteolin had the most antiproliferative activities against tumors.
Naringin - gives a bitter taste in grapefruits.
Morin - reach in guava
Rutin - most potent flavonoid, inhibitor of VEGF release.

Rutin Rutin, also called rutoside, quercetin-3-rutinoside and sophorin, is a citrus flavonoid glycoside found in buckwheat, the leaves and petioles of Rheum species, and asparagus. Rutin is also found in the fruit of the Fava D'Anta tree (from Brazil), fruits and fruit rinds (especially citrus fruits (orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime)) and berries such as mulberry and cranberries. Its name comes from the name of Ruta graveolens, a plant that also contains rutin.
Rutin is the glycoside between the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose.
