According to researches conducted recently, there is chance to develop dementia in people who have high cholesterol level in the middle age.
Past researches in this field proved that the risk factor for heart disease can be considered as an increased risk for dementia. This report was published by the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, California. Around 9,000 people were participated in the study and the researchers recorded their data on smoking, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol for a period of 27 years.
Each risk factor found in patients was linked with around 20-40 percent of increased risk of dementia in old age. People with two risk factors are 70 percent more likely to develop dementia and those with three risk factors are twice more likely to develop dementia when compared to people with no risk factor. People who have four risk factors are around 237 percent more likely to develop dementia in the later life. The researchers recommend to have better treatment to reduce the heart risk factors and thereby reduce the risk of dementia.
